Corrugated Box Shredder for PP Sheets, Boxes & Signage
PP corrugated (sunpack) sheets, boxes, partition trays and printed signage are bulky to store and awkward to dispose of — but the polypropylene in them is fully recyclable. Shred and grind them down to dense, saleable PP flake. Customized corrugated box shredders available, built in Mumbai since 1985.
The PP Corrugated Waste Challenge
PP corrugated sheet — sunpack, flute board, twin-wall polypropylene — is everywhere in Indian industry: returnable packaging boxes, partition trays and dividers for auto components, layer pads, danglers and point-of-sale displays, and acres of printed signage after every election season, product launch and exhibition. It is light, stiff and weatherproof, which is exactly what makes it a disposal headache: a stack of used sheets occupies enormous volume for very little weight, transport costs per kilogram are punishing, and unlike paper corrugated there is no kabadiwala network that takes it readily.
The waste also carries obligations. Printed campaign material and branded packaging should not surface in the second-hand market — companies and agencies are expected to destroy it after use. And since PP corrugated counts as rigid plastic packaging, EPR provisions under the Plastic Waste Management Rules push brand owners and converters to show a recycling route rather than a dumping one. The good news: it is clean, single-polymer polypropylene. Shredded and ground, it becomes dense PP flake that reprocessors buy for compounding and moulding — turning a storage problem into a recovery stream.
The Right Shredding Approach for Corrugated Sheets and Boxes
Corrugated material — whether PP sheet or multi-ply paper board — shreds best when it is fed flat and continuously. Raj Electricals has built a customized Corrugated Box Shredder with a conveyor belt at the output; the documented build shreds corrugated boxes up to 7 ply and is configured to order around your box sizes and throughput. For PP corrugated specifically, the same engineering applies: a dual shaft cutting chamber tears folded boxes and stacked sheets into strips, and the conveyor carries the shred away so feeding never stops. Tell us your sheet sizes, ply and daily volume, and we will configure the machine accordingly.
Where the goal is saleable PP flake rather than just volume reduction, run two stages. A dual shaft shredder handles mixed rigid packaging waste for the primary cut, and an RE-series plastic grinder then regrinds strips into uniform flake against a mesh screen — the large RE25 and RE30 models are rated for any plastic material below 25″ and 30″. On customized shredder builds the output size can be defined by mesh from 1 mm to 30 mm or more. Machines are MS-built with SS-grade construction available, and export orders receive motors matched to your voltage and frequency.
Corrugated Shredding Process — From Stacked Sheets to PP Flake
- Collection & flattening Used boxes, trays and signage sheets are collected, knocked flat and stacked for feeding
- Stripping fittings Metal eyelets, frames, rivets and plastic clip fittings on signage are removed — metal breaks blades
- Shredding Sheets and boxes are fed into the cutting chamber and torn into strips; a conveyor carries shred away
- Grinding to flake An RE-series grinder reduces PP strips to uniform flake sized by the mesh screen
- Bagging & dispatch Dense flake is packed and sold to PP reprocessors for compounding and moulding

Frequently Asked Questions
Is PP corrugated (sunpack) sheet recyclable?
Yes — fully. PP corrugated sheet is plain polypropylene formed into a twin-wall fluted profile; there is no coating or mixed polymer to separate. Once shredded and ground into flake, it goes to PP reprocessors who pelletize it for moulding and compounding, the same route as crate or cap regrind. The reason so much of it still ends up dumped is purely logistical: whole sheets are too bulky to transport economically. Shredding solves exactly that — see our PP plastic shredding solution for the wider polypropylene picture.
Can the same machine shred paper corrugated boxes and PP corrugated sheets?
The cutting principle is the same, and Raj Electricals has built shredders for both streams — the documented customized corrugated box shredder handles boxes up to 7 ply with a conveyor output, and our plastic shredders handle PP sheet. If you run both materials, say so in your enquiry: the right configuration depends on which stream dominates, because output handling differs (paper shred often goes to baling, PP shred to grinding). Keep the streams separate in any case — paper fibre contaminating PP flake lowers its value.
We have truckloads of printed PP signage after a campaign — what is the disposal route?
Strip the fittings (metal eyelets, frames, clips), then shred and grind the sheets into PP flake. This does two things at once: the printed branding is destroyed — important when campaign or brand material must not resurface — and the polypropylene becomes a saleable commodity instead of a tipping-fee liability. Agencies and brand teams handling seasonal surges often shred in batches; a mid-range dual shaft machine clears volume quickly and earns its keep on the recovered flake. Send us your estimated tonnage for a line recommendation.
What size machine does a packaging converter need for offcuts and rejects?
Converters generate a steady, predictable stream — trim strips, punching skeletons and reject sheets — so size against your daily scrap weight rather than peak season. Weigh a typical day’s offcuts and divide by your shredding window: most converters land comfortably within a mid-range dual shaft machine, with an RE-series grinder downstream if you sell flake rather than shred. High-volume converters can discuss a customized line with conveyor discharge. Our machine selection guide walks through the sizing.
What happens to the PP flake after grinding — who buys it?
PP reprocessors and compounders buy clean corrugated flake to pelletize into reprocessed granules, which go into moulded products, sheets and compounds. Because sunpack sheet is single-polymer and usually clean, its flake is an easy sell compared with mixed plastic scrap — printed sheets fetch slightly less than unprinted, and consistent flake size from a mesh-screened RE-series grinder earns better rates than coarse shred. If you accumulate enough volume, reprocessors will collect from your premises on contract.
How much does a corrugated box shredder cost in India?
Every machine is quoted to the job. What moves the number is capacity, throat size, motor rating, MS or SS construction and the automation you add — a blower, a conveyor, a control panel. Our guide to what drives machine cost walks through each of those; send us your material and daily volume and we will size the machine and quote it, usually the same day.
Can the shredder be customized for our box size and output handling?
Yes — customization is a core part of what Raj Electricals does. That corrugated box shredder is itself a customized model built around a client’s requirement, with a conveyor belt added at the output. On customized builds, the feed opening is sized to your boxes, output size can be defined by mesh from 1 mm to 30 mm or more, and SS-grade contact construction is available where needed. Describe your material and floor layout in your enquiry and our team will propose a configuration.
Can we trial our own sheets and boxes before ordering?
Yes. Courier or bring representative material — printed signage, sunpack offcuts, folded boxes — to our works in Andheri East, Mumbai, and we will run it through the machine while you watch or record the trial on video for outstation buyers. A trial settles the questions a spec sheet cannot: how your specific sheet feeds, what the shred looks like, and what throughput you really get. Contact us to schedule one before you finalise any purchase.
