Single Shaft Plastic Shredder Machines

When the scrap is too hard, too thick or too big for anything else — plastic lumps, purgings, FRP boards, thick-walled rejects — a single shaft shredder is the machine that eats it. Our line is built around one machine: the S3-600, manufactured in Mumbai and rated to run 24 hours continuously.

What is a single shaft shredder and how does it work?

A single shaft shredder has one slow-turning rotor fitted with multiple cutting blades that shear material against fixed counter-blades in the chamber wall. On our S3-600, that means a rotor turning at 80 rpm, carrying 26 hardened rotary blades working against 2 fixed blades, inside a heavy-walled chamber. The slow speed produces high cutting force with less heat, noise and dust than high-speed machines — which is exactly what hard, thick plastic needs.

  1. Load the hopper Bulky scrap goes into the 600×1000 mm side-feeding hopper — whole lumps, boards and offcuts, no pre-cutting
  2. Rotor engages The rotor turns at 80 rpm, pressing material onto the blades with high torque
  3. Shear cutting 26 rotary blades shear the material against 2 fixed blades, slicing thick sections cleanly
  4. Sized discharge Cut pieces discharge for recycling — pair with an RE-series grinder when you need fine, uniform regrind

Rule of thumb: if a solid piece has no edge for dual-shaft blades to grip — a purge lump, a dead-head, a thick FRP board — it belongs on the single shaft. If it is hollow, flexible or comes by the tonne, see the dual shaft line. If it already fits a grinder throat and you want uniform regrind, go straight to the grinders & granulators.

The machine in this line: S3-600

One single shaft platform covers the whole duty range — plastics, FRP composites, wood and bulk paper on the same rotor. Rather than a family of overlapping models, we build the S3-600 and configure the rotor and blades to your material.

S3-600 Single-Shaft Shredder

  • 30 HP (22 kW), 415 V 3-phase drive · 80 rpm rotor
  • 300–500 kg/hr depending on material density
  • 600×1000 mm side-feeding hopper · 26+2 hardened blades
  • 2,300 kg build · heavy-plate chamber · 75 dB

Best for: plastic lumps and purgings, FRP sheets and boards, rotomoulding rejects — plus wood, pallets and bulk paper on the same machine.

When the S3-600 is the right call

  • Purgings, dead-heads and start-up lumps from injection and extrusion machines
  • FRP sheets, decorative panels, bars and boards — abrasive composite duty
  • Thick-walled rejects: rotomoulded tanks, pipes, profiles
  • Mixed tough waste — one machine across lumps, FRP, pallets and paper
  • Two-stage lines: S3-600 shreds, an RE-series grinder finishes to regrind

Single shaft machines for special duties — laminates and similar streams — are configured to order on request; share a sample and we will size the machine, blades and feed opening accordingly. See the laminate shredder for one such configuration.

Single shaft shredder FAQs

When should I choose a single shaft shredder over a dual shaft shredder?

Choose single shaft when your scrap is hard, thick or solid — lumps, purgings, FRP boards, pipes, thick-walled parts. The single rotor presses material onto the blades and slices it with controlled cuts. Choose a dual shaft shredder when volume and mixed waste matter more than output consistency — bottles, film, bags and assorted scrap feed faster between two counter-rotating shafts.

What materials can the S3-600 single shaft shredder handle?

The S3-600 shreds plastic lumps, plastic scrap, FRP (sheets, panels, bars, boards), wood (pallets, logs, branches) and bulk paper. It is specifically built for big, dense pieces that won’t fit a grinder throat — material goes in through a 600×1000 mm side-feeding hopper without pre-cutting. Capacity is 300–500 kg/hr depending on material density.

What output size does a single shaft shredder produce?

Shredders produce coarse, irregular pieces — the job is volume reduction, not fine granulation. If your recycler or your own molding line needs uniform granules, run the shredded output through an RE-series plastic grinder, where the mesh (15 mm standard, customisable) fixes the final granule size. The shredder-plus-grinder pair is the standard setup for lumps-to-regrind lines.

How much does a single shaft shredder machine cost in India?

Every machine is quoted to the job. What moves the number is capacity, throat size, motor rating, MS or SS construction and the automation you add — a blower, a conveyor, a control panel. Our guide to what drives machine cost walks through each of those; send us your material and daily volume and we will size the machine and quote it, usually the same day.

What maintenance does a single shaft shredder need?

Mainly blade care and lubrication. The S3-600’s blades are hardened tool steel and the machine is designed to be cleaned and lubricated easily — keeping the cutting head properly oiled extends blade life and keeps the machine running smoother and quieter. Avoid overloading and keep metal objects out of the feed; we provide on-site installation and maintenance service across India.

Can I trial the machine with my own material before purchase?

Yes — and for single shaft machines we strongly recommend it, because capacity varies with material density. Courier or bring your lumps, FRP or laminate scrap to our Andheri East works and we will run it on the S3-600 so you can verify throughput and output size before you commit. Contact us via the enquiry form to schedule a trial.
